Position Summary

Functioning as part of a coordinated service delivery team, the Family Support Worker (FSW) works proactively with pregnant youth, children and families associated with the Mothering Project and Anne Ross Day Nursery, offering a range of support services that build on the strengths of the family and give the children an optimal opportunity for healthy growth and development. The FSW is a relationship-builder and advocate and provides service in a non-judgmental and culturally appropriate manner, helping families to build new skills and achieve their goals.
 
Qualifications

Education
  • ECE II/III certification with specialization in inclusion support, children with special needs or equivalent
  • Education/training in human ecology, child development, applied counselling or a Family Support Worker Certificate
  • Must have driver’s license and reliable vehicle
 
Service Delivery Skills, Expertise and Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working successfully with young people/children, including those with additional support needs
  • Experience working with families in marginalized communities and community agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with families and children from diverse groups
  • Comprehensive knowledge of community resources for parents, families and children

Proven knowledge and ability in relationship-building, facilitation, decision-making, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills

Demonstrated ability to prioritize and focus work-related activities to effectively and efficiently achieve service goals and produce expected results/outcomes
