Position Summary
The ACT-Wiisocotatiwin Nurse II provides health education and care within the scope of nursing practice. As a member of a client-centered interdisciplinary team, the incumbent will provide crisis response as needed and assist other staff in defusing situations where the presence of someone with mental health expertise could be helpful. The incumbent will conduct nursing psychiatric assessments, provide support and education to clients about their medications and treatment options and refer the client to other professionals/services within and outside of MCC.
Qualifications
Education
Graduate of approved Registered Nursing education program, BN preferred.
Must be a member in good standing with CRNM. This includes knowledge of the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for RNs or RPNs.
Education and training in mental health assessments, suicide intervention and mental health treatments and medication required
A combination of experience and education will be considered
Skills, Expertise and Experience
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working as a Registered Nurse
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in a community health setting
Knowledge and Experience working with Students and/or Volunteers
Current CPR Certification at Basic Rescuer Level
Familiarity with the Mental Health Act
Demonstrated clinical skills in physical examination and nursing intervention
Knowledge of medications used to treat mental illness and their side effects
Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills including a keen awareness of participant-clinician boundary issues
Excellent clinical assessment/interview skills in mental health and addictions
Experience working with clients with concurrent disorder and those living in unstable housing conditions or homeless an asset
Excellent knowledge of community resources available to people living with mental health illness including those related to diversity and demonstrated ability to negotiate with others on behalf of clients
